Herbal Medicines and Holistic
Wellness have become a popular form of preventive medicine and, in
fact, the treatment of some health issues. Often called Naturopathy,
the herbs and roots that are used in such medicinal blends are
potent and effective but they come after thousands of years of
research and human use. Consider the fact that Asia, including
India, has been administering herbal medicines for thousands of
years and herbalists in those countries have learned from their
ancestors over those thousands of years. One of the advantages to
herbal medicines is that they are natural products and the purest
forms do not use any additives to bind the product. There is a
caution that must be applied to herbal medicines. Herbal
medicines are powerful compounds. Just because a product is natural
does not mean that it is not hazardous to your health. Consider, if
you will, the Deadly Nightshade mushroom. When used in a proper
balance with other natural products it might effectively treat a
specific type of infection. If, on the other hand, you prepare a
meal of such mushrooms sautéed in butter, you will find yourself
seriously ill and perhaps dead. When considering the use of natural
herbal medicines for a specific ailment because you heard that it
"cures" the problem and, if you are under a physician's care, you
owe it to your good general health to ask your physician or your
pharmacist whether the herbal medicine you are planning on taking
would be in conflict with the prescription medications that have
been ordered by your physician. There are cases where herbal
medicines seriously conflict with prescription drugs causing death. |
