The Women's Web Directory (WWD) aspires to be a specific resource focusing on the needs of women in the world society. As the WWD grows, it will very much be like a huge reference book where women can visit and get specific information useful to their lives or, a particular situation or issue. We have developed the WWD to be a hierarchical directory that will allow visitors to start at broad search topics and refine them to more specific content and it is for that hierarchical methodology that the WWD is human edited. Editors of WWD are expert in the task of sifting through website submissions and determining the validity of a web site within the parameters of how the site owner submitted it. All submissions are subjected to rigorous standards for placement into the directory and it is their decision regarding each site reviewed as to whether it is suitable for the WWD in general and the hierarchical category specifically. Our editors do not have the time to contact a webmaster who has filed incorrectly nor do they have the time to begin moving files to another editor. It is therefore in the webmaster's best interests to submit their site properly and within the appropriate guidelines for each category.
The WWD is NOT a search engine and searches performed on our directory result only in the site listings within our data banks. We do not now, nor shall we ever, look to accept every website submitted to us within any given category. We are highly sensitive to offering results that are specific to the end user and we do not look upon listings within the WWD as a vehicle for website promotion even though that result will, in all likelihood be effected by listing on the WWD. The decision of listing a site is solely at the discretion of the editor who will systematically review a submitted site according to Editor Guidelines that require the entire site be reviewed to ensure compliance with our terms and conditions of site submission and then move to review the site in conjunction with the category to which it has been submitted. Not all sites are accepted and in fact, there are likely to be more sites rejected than allowed into the WWD.
To keep the WWD running smoothly and to guide our editorial discretion, we have set up policies for submitting sites for our consideration. We may reject, delete, or edit submissions that violate these policies or that we otherwise believe, in our sole discretion, should not be included in the directory. We may also reject, delete, or block other sites that we believe to be associated with a user who has violated these policies.
We have created the following guidelines to assist you in maximizing your opportunity to become listed in the WWD. Understanding them and your compliance with respect to them, will help both you and us considerably.
Phase One
- Do NOT submit sites that are under construction
- Sites that redirect to another URL will be excluded.
- Only submit the main page for example http://www.yoursite.com/ any submissions made other than a main page will be rejected. Multiple attempts to contravene this policy will cause the main domain listing to be removed.
- If you have more than one site with similar content, submit only the most relevent. Our visitors look for qualitative information and not quantitative or repetitive results to their search.
- Mirror Sites or gateway pages that lead into a listed site will be rejected.
- Sites that present a range of affiliate sales program links without vital content will be rejected
- Pornographic Sites are NOT accepted to the WWD.
- Sites offering, promoting, or containing illegal content will be immediately rejected without consideration. Illegal content can be defined, but not limited to child pornography; libel; infringement to International Property and Copyright Conventions; promotes condones or abets violence against women and children specifically but any citizen in general; promotion of generally accepted criminal activities including but not limited to fraud or violence.
Phase Two
As our goal is to create a complete information source for women our editors, when time is available, "search the web" for relevant sites within their area of expertise and will add those sites to our ever-growing database. This being the case, we ask that you search for your URL on our front page to verify we do not all ready have you represented.
Phase Three
The WWD has an extensive list of categories as well as sub-categories from which to choose. Carefully select the single-most appropriate category to which your website is applicable. Submissions made to inaccurate or inappropriate classifications will suffer immediate rejection. Do NOT submit your website to the top classification. If you do not see a classification for your site that you believe should appear in the WWD, use the Suggest Category link at the top of the Submission Page.
Phase Four
Go to the Category and sub-category in which your site belongs and click on the "Add URL" link at the top of the page. When you arrive at the submission form, read the information carefully and proceed. We do NOT accept auto-submissions at the WWD and when received, they are quickly dispatched to the recycle bin. The WWD caters to real people just as we cater specifically to women.
Take your time to create a proper description of the overall purpose of your website that will allow visitors to properly determine the value to them. Self-promotion is not tolerated and our editors, unless your site has incredeible benefit to our visitors, will not edit or re-write your Description.
A WWD editor will review your submission to determine whether to include it in the directory. It may take several weeks or more before your submission is reviewed. Please only submit a URL to the Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.
Editorial Discretion
Please recognize that making the WWD a useful resource to women requires us to exercise broad editorial discretion in determining the content and structure of the directory. That discretion extends (but is not limited) to what sites to include, where in the directory sites are placed, whether and/or when to include more than one link to a site. In addition, a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time at our sole discretion. You should not rely on any aspect of a site's inclusion in the directory. Please understand that an editor's exercise of discretion may not always treat all submissions equally. You may not always agree with our choices, but we hope you recognize that we do our best to make fair and reasonable decisions.
